PACU Shines at the Commonwealth Chorale Festival in Milton Keynes, UK

Milton Keynes, United Kingdom – June 12, 2025

Pan African Choir Uganda (PACU) was vibrantly and proudly represented during the Cultural Exchange Day at the ongoing Commonwealth Chorale Festival held in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, yesterday. The event brought together chorale ensembles from across the Commonwealth, celebrating diversity, unity, and the rich musical traditions of participating countries.

Draped in colorful African attire and singing with unmistakable passion, PACU captivated audiences with a repertoire that blended traditional Ugandan folk melodies, Pan-African harmonies, and contemporary choral arrangements. Their performance was more than music — it was a celebration of identity, resilience, and the transformative power of the arts.

A Voice from Uganda to the World

The Cultural Exchange Day offered a platform for choirs to not only perform but also to share their heritage, engage in dialogue, and foster meaningful collaborations. PACU’s performance stood out for its high energy, rhythmic integrity, and expressive storytelling. From their infectious drumming patterns to powerful vocal solos and graceful movement, the choir brought the heartbeat of Africa to the international stage.

Choir Director Simon Yiga expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity, stating:

“Being here at the Commonwealth Chorale Festival is a dream come true — not just for our choir but for Uganda as a whole. We are here to represent our people, our culture, and our commitment to peace and global unity through music.”

Cultural Exchange and Community Building

Beyond the stage, PACU members participated in interactive workshops, cultural exhibitions, and panel discussions with fellow choristers from countries such as India, Canada, Malaysia, South Africa, and the UK. These engagements opened new doors for artistic collaboration, cultural understanding, and future international exchanges.

Attendees and fellow performers alike praised PACU’s authenticity, noting the emotional resonance and cultural depth in their presentation. Many were moved to dance, clap, and sing along — creating a joyful atmosphere of shared humanity and celebration.

A Message of Unity Through Music

As the Commonwealth Chorale Festival continues, PACU’s presence marks a significant step in its mission to bring the soul of Africa to global audiences. The choir’s participation not only showcased Uganda’s cultural richness but also echoed its message of peace, unity, and artistic excellence.

PACU’s journey in the UK is part of a broader vision — a cultural diplomacy initiative aimed at using music to bridge divides, tell African stories, and nurture young talent. Yesterday’s performance was a testament to that mission in action.
